Invitation for Nominations on the Executive
Council of ISOCARD
An
election will be held for the new members of the ISOCARD Executive
Council during the next ISOCARD Conference in Muscat, 2012. This
will be done by ballot at the General Assembly Meeting, held during
the course of the Conference. Only ISOCARD Members who attend the
next ISOCARD conference at Muscat can cast their vote. This
announcement is a call for all members to attend the conference and
participate in the election.
Nominations are invited
from members. In order to be eligible, all candidates and voters
must be members of ISOCARD. Candidates for the election must produce
a personal statement to support their nomination, which will be
circulated to ISOCARD members via email and the ISOCARD website. The
personal statement should be submitted in English and should include
the following information:
Ř
The candidate’s current position,
experience and research interests
Ř
Reasons the candidate would like to
stand for election
Ř
A statement about what the candidate
would bring to ISOCARD
Ř
Any positions held on advisory
Councils/Committees elsewhere.
The deadline for nominations will be 15th of January 2011.
Nominations should be sent to Ghaleb Alhadrami by email
hadrami@uaeu.ac.ae
. The candidates will be announced on the ISOCARD website and the
personal statements of each candidate posted there. The members will
be emailed at this time and directed to the website where they will
be able to download the candidates’ personal statements.
Rules of election according to the minutes of the current Executive
committee:
1.
Two members of the current Executive
Council (hereafter referred to as “the Council”) shall remain on the
Council in order to ensure continuity of information within the
Society governance. If only two current members wish to remain, they
shall be re-elected automatically.
2.
Four members of the current Council
shall step down, to be replaced by newly elected members.
3.
If more than 2 current Council
members wish to stay on the Council, they will need to be elected by
the ISOCARD members, but after the election, no more than 2 current
Council members shall remain.
4.
The remaining 4 members of the
Council will be new members elected from the ISOCARD membership.
Consequently, there may be two groups of individuals standing for
election: those hoping to be re-elected from whom only 2 may be
selected, and those seeking election for the first time from whom 4
may be selected. This will be based on the number of votes per
candidate.
5.
Should there not be enough new
candidates standing for election (i.e. less than 4), then more
current members will be eligible to remain if they wish.
6.
Only one person from a single
country may be elected. (The country is defined by the candidate’s
place of work.) Therefore, if more than one person is nominated from
a single country, only the individual with the highest number of
votes can be elected to serve on the Council. This rule ensures that
the Council maintains its international representation.
7.
One position on the Council is to be
reserved for a candidate representing South American Camelid. This
is to reflect the smaller number of ISOCARD members representing
these species and ensures that they continue to be represented on
the Council. A maximum of 3 positions may be held by persons
representing South American Camelid.
The role of the Executive Council members:
In general, to contribute to the
management of ISOCARD
1.
To prepare the
selection of the next organizer of the ISOCARD conference
2.
To contribute to
the organization and scientific orientation of ISOCARD conferences
and to participate to the in-between meeting of the EC in order to
prepare the ISOCARD conference
3.
To contribute to
the support of ISOCARD by looking for sponsors, by promoting ISOCARD
in national and international meetings, by representation of ISOCARD
in all events linked to Camelid
4.
To contribute to
the promotion and the management of the Journal of Camelid Sciences
5.
To contribute by
providing the ISOCARD website with information on Camelid
